Traumer, the Paris-based producer born Romain Reynaud, moved from straight techno to hypnotic minimal house and founded his own label, get-traum, in 2016.
Traumer, born Romain Reynaud in 1991, grew up in Avignon before moving to Paris to chase a production career, and he's since become one of the more recognizable names in what's sometimes called Rominimal, long, patiently unfolding minimal house built on hypnotic loops and precise mixing rather than obvious peaks. He's largely self-taught, learning to produce by ear rather than through any formal training, and started making music seriously in his mid-teens.
From Straight Techno to Rominimal
Reynaud's debut release arrived in 2011 on the French label Skryptöm, a run of driving, straightforward techno EPs that gave little indication of the direction his sound would eventually take. Around 2016, that changed. Influenced by the Bucharest minimal scene built around Rhadoo, Raresh and Petre Inspirescu, Traumer's productions grew more intricate and stripped-back, trading techno's harder edges for the looser, groove-first style now associated with his name. He has released across a run of respected labels through both phases of his career, including Berg Audio, Cosmo, Desolat and FUSE London, and he has also produced under aliases including Romain Poncet and, alongside DJ Deep, Sergie Rezza.
get-traum
Traumer founded get-traum, his own label, in 2016, timed to match the shift in his sound and giving him a dedicated outlet for the more minimal, house-leaning material he was starting to make. The label has since become the main home for his solo work and a launching point for related projects, including a softer alias called Jinger that he introduced later as a separate outlet from the Traumer name itself.
