Rhadoo is one of the people who turned a small Bucharest scene into a sound other cities copied. Born Radu Bogdan Cilinca, the Romanian DJ and producer is one third of the trio behind the Arpiar label, a regular on the long-set circuit, and a figure the press describes as a first-generation pioneer while he himself says very little in public.
Early Life and Path Into Music
According to XLR8R's history of Romanian house and techno, Rhadoo was born in 1975 in Galați and belongs to the first generation of DJs that emerged after the 1989 revolution. Bandcamp Daily's 2026 scene report says he began spinning in the 1990s.
XLR8R says he met the booking agent Catalin Ghinea at Club A in Bucharest in 1990 and played tapes there two nights a week during that decade. In the early 2000s he had a weekly radio show and travelled around Romania to play. In 2002 he was in Ibiza with Petre Inspirescu, where, XLR8R reports, the pair spent their days hunting for minimal records because they could not afford to go out. Wikipedia's page on the 2003 MTV Romania Music Awards, held on 5 June 2003 at Sala Polivalentă in Bucharest, lists Rhadoo as the winner of Best DJ.
Arpiar and the RPR Trio
Rhadoo, Raresh and Petre Inspirescu run the label Arpiar, written [a:rpia:r] by the label itself. XLR8R says the trio also DJ together as RPR, short for Rhadoo, Pedro and Raresh, and that the label was formed in 2006 or 2007. Our Raresh profile covers the same label from his side, including why sources disagree on the founding year.
Bandcamp Daily says the trio were coached by Ricardo Villalobos, who was enjoying a surge of popularity in Bucharest at the time and released a handful of his records on Arpiar. The label's own site, arpiar.ro, is a bare contact page, in keeping with the low profile the three keep. For the wider story of how Arpiar, the agency Sunrise and a beach festival fed one another, see our history of Romanian minimal techno.
Sound and Style
Discogs describes him as a Romanian techno, tech-house and minimal DJ, producer and remixer, and that range is audible in his discography, which runs from tech-house remixes in the mid-2000s to the patient, swung records the Romanian scene became known for. XLR8R's 2015 feature on the scene notes that some of his releases are pure techno, a reminder that the label "minimal" fits him loosely. Bandcamp Daily frames the wider Romanian style as a blend of folk and classical elements in slow dance music, which is as close to a definition as the scene itself offers.
It is a sound built for long nights rather than peak-time drops. His influence is visible beyond Romania: our Traumer profile notes that the Paris producer's shift around 2016 drew on the Bucharest scene around Rhadoo, Raresh and Petre Inspirescu.
Labels and Releases
The release that gets named most often is the 12-inch Dor Mit Oru, issued on Cadenza in April 2008. Discogs lists four tracks, "Bau", "Baisbe Alt Bass", "Elan" and "Slagare", spread across two Cadenza catalogue numbers, 22 and 25, and Bandcamp Daily singles it out as a Cadenza release of original songs. In October 2013 he mixed fabric 72 for the London club's long-running series, which Discogs lists with 17 tracks and Bandcamp Daily calls revered. His Arhiva EP appeared on Understand in 2012, a label run by his Our Own partner Cezar Lazăr, and Discogs also lists a Semantics EP on Nervmusic Records in 2019.
Beyond records, XLR8R says he co-founded Our Own, a distributor and booking agency, with Cezar Lazăr. XLR8R also notes that Rhadoo has not spoken publicly and avoids the media, so interviews are close to nonexistent and this profile sticks to releases and reported facts.
