Adam Beyer is the founder of Drumcode, the Swedish techno label that has been run by the same person since 1996. As a DJ he plays the driving, peak-time end of techno, as a label owner he has built one of the few imprints of its era still under its founder's control, and in 2026 he marked the label's 30th year with a festival in Mallorca and a remix of Faithless.
Early Life and Path Into Music
Adam Thomas Beyer was born on 15 May 1976 in Stockholm, Sweden, according to Wikipedia and the German Wikipedia, which agree with the birth record on MusicBrainz. The German article says he bought his first turntables in 1990, was into hip-hop, acid and techno, and got his first record contract in 1993 from the New York label Direct Drive. In 1995 he finished school and began working at the Stockholm record shop Planet Rhythm and released "Drumcode 1."
Sound and Style
Beyer plays the harder, peak-time end of techno. Beatportal's coverage of his 2026 Faithless remix describes his reworking of "We Come 1" as a driving, high-impact techno track that he had been playing through the summer, including at his Resistance residency at Amnesia in Ibiza. EDMTunes similarly links his driving, melodic, peak-time style to the label's sound over its three decades.
The Drumcode Label Story
Drumcode launched in 1996, per Wikipedia's label page, as a Swedish techno label that originally signed only Swedish producers before widening its roster. Our independent label survival study records that Beyer started it with 3,000 British pounds of his own money and still owns it, one of several labels in the study that never changed hands. German Wikipedia credits Drumcode with helping put Stockholm on the techno map, names Joel Mull and Cari Lekebusch among its early artists and says Beyer also founded the sublabel Code Red and, in 2002, Truesoul Records as a platform for experimental music and concept albums.
The label's later roster, as listed on Wikipedia, includes Amelie Lens, Green Velvet, Joey Beltram, Maceo Plex, Marco Carola and Pan-Pot, and the Drumcode site shows a continuing programme of label nights. It was also a long-term home for Harvey McKay, whose death in May 2026 was confirmed by the label; our remembrance of Harvey McKay traces his catalogue on Drumcode. Behind the scenes, our Rawax profile notes that Beyer's label account was one of the ones Robert Drewek managed at the distributor ELP Medien between 2000 and 2007.
Career Highlights
Beyer's studio albums, per Wikipedia, are Decoded (1996), Recoded (1997), Protechtion (1999) and Ignition Key (2002), alongside the mix CD Fabric 22 (2005). Wikipedia lists his DJ Mag Top 100 placings as 65 in 2003, 50 in 2004 and 48 in 2019. In June 2011 he and Dorian Paic mixed Cocoon's pre-season compilation Cocoon Heroes, which our Cocoon timeline cites from Discogs.
The label's 30th anniversary year has been busy. Drumcode Mallorca, a three day festival on 8 to 10 May 2026, was its inaugural edition, with a line-up including Amelie Lens, Joseph Capriati, Pan-Pot, Alan Fitzpatrick, Eli Brown and Joris Voorn, per EDMTunes; his set was later released as Drumcode Radio 827. In September 2026 Drumcode put out Faithless Reworks, with Beyer and KASIA remixing "We Come 1" and "Tarantula," timed to the 30th anniversaries of both the label and the British group.
He is also on the Amsterdam Dance Event 2026 line-up, and his name sits on the Printworks booking sheet recapped in our piece on the venue's reopening. Another stop on the festival circuit is the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, now Movement, where the photo above was taken in 2009.
