Arapu is a Romanian producer and DJ working in minimal house. Born in Slatina and based in Bucharest, he runs his own label, Liniar, belongs to the Sunrise agency roster, and in 2025 made his debut on Solid Grooves Raw. In the account of rominimal, Bandcamp Daily names him among the current artists of the Bucharest scene.

Early Life and Path Into Music

Trommel describes Arapu as a Slatina-born producer, and the Discogs profile for the artist gives his name as Ionuț Arapu and his birth year as 1986. Sunrise's artist page says he became involved with electronic music as a teenager, began organising parties at 15, and by the late 2000s was a prominent name in Romania's underground. Bandcamp Daily's 2026 scene report says he established his footing as a teenager with the single "Wasted." We could not find a dated release listing for that single, so treat the year as unconfirmed.

Resident Advisor's 2015 news item describes him as a Bucharest-based house producer who had been releasing records since 2011, and said his 2015 output so far included the I/0 EP, made with fellow Bucharest producer Priku, and a 12-inch for Quo Vadis under the alias Am.

Sound and Style

Sunrise sums up his sound as minimal house, deep grooves and detailed sound design, with productions that favour groove and subtle texture. Bandcamp Daily is more specific about the Eastenderz 12-inch ENDZ022: two ten-minute tracks, slinky, with whispery voices and pearly textures over beats that keep moving forward. The two tracks on the release are simply titled "Untitled #1" and "Untitled #2" on the label's Bandcamp page.

Labels and Releases

The label story starts in 2015. Resident Advisor reported that he was launching a label called Liniar, with a first release, the three-track Pitfall EP, scheduled for October that year. It also noted that Petre Inspirescu had played a track from Liniar's second release at Sunwaves 17. Mixmag NL credits him with founding Liniar, and Sunrise lists releases on Liniar, Metereze, Te Iubesc Records and CrazyJack.

Two other releases are well documented:

  • Wasted Ego EP on Understand, the Bucharest label founded in 2011 by Cezar Lazar, Kozo and Praslea. XLR8R, writing in 2017, called it his debut on the label and its seventh release, a vinyl-only pressing.
  • ENDZ022 on the London label Eastenderz. Bandcamp Daily dates the 12-inch to 2019, but Eastenderz' own Bandcamp page lists it as released on 6 July 2018, so sources disagree by a year.

In January 2018 Trommel reviewed the ATMOS001 EP on Atmos, shared with Tulbure and Piticu, where Arapu's contribution opens the A-side with a track called "Arial." In June 2025, Mixmag NL reported his debut on Solid Grooves Raw, the single "You Got The Groove."

Career Highlights

Sunrise says that through the agency he has played festivals and venues across Europe, including Sunwaves, Berlin, Paris and Ibiza, and that he often plays back-to-back with Priku. Mixmag NL lists DC10, Sunwaves, Club Space and Caprices Festival among his bookings, and says he has collaborated with Priku and Shonky.

Arapu was also named on the line-up of Sunwaves 35, the final Romanian edition, which Zile si Nopti's festival listing dates to 1 to 5 May 2025 at Mamaia Nord. Our Sunwaves festival page tells the festival's story from its 2007 start to its move out of Romania. Sunrise also represents Raresh, one of the founders of Arpiar, the label Bandcamp Daily places at the centre of the scene.
