Vlad Caia is a Bucharest producer whose records start as improvised takes and are then edited into arrangements. He is also a mastering engineer and a co-founder of Amphia Records, and works as half of SIT with Cristi Cons, as one third of Amorf, and under his own name, where his 2018 album Division I is the headline release. He features in our history of rominimal, the Bucharest scene around Sunrise and Arpiar.

Early Life and Path Into Music

Discogs describes him as a Bucharest-based musician. According to Bandcamp Daily's 2026 scene report, he stumbled upon the Rominimal sound while studying in Norway, and XLR8R reports that the first synthesizer he ever bought, a MicroKorg, came from a local music shop there around 2007. A Bucharest club listing says he studied Digital Media Technology in Oslo and was selected for the Red Bull Music Academy in London in 2010. In a Fabric interview with Cristi Cons, undated on the page, Cons says the pair met in 2006 and slowly started working as producers before settling on the name SIT.

Sound and Style

XLR8R's Studio Essentials with Caia describes a deliberately minimal studio built around a few computers and a handful of instruments, including a Moog Sub 37, a DSI Tempest, an Elektron Model:Samples and a Eurorack system. His recordings are improvised: he programs drums and synths, hits record to capture a take of 15 to 30 minutes, then spends a long time editing and testing arrangements on club systems. Bandcamp Daily says he favours a compact process and has a mastery of Ableton, Bitwig and Max/MSP.

Labels and Releases

Caia helped form Amphia Records, the Bucharest label he runs with Cristi Cons, and Discogs lists him as its co-owner and as a mastering engineer for Composure Audio Works. The Amphia catalogue on Discogs shows his early EPs Projections (2012) and Codex (2014), followed by the two parts of Division.

Division I came out on 20 June 2018 as Amphia 14. It has five tracks, running from 6 to 9 minutes: "Division," "Sidepoint," "Give Receive," "Border Patrol" and "Interstice." The label's notes say he wrote and produced it, Mike Grinser mastered it at Manmade Mastering, and the structure is symmetrical, opening with dynamic harmonies, settling into a calmer middle section and ending dynamically again. Bandcamp Daily calls the album "Rominimal at its funkiest" and describes laser-like melodies mingling with sharp sequencing. Division II followed in 2019, according to Discogs.

Career Highlights

Caia is half of SIT with Cons, whose 2019 album Invisibility Bandcamp Daily highlights, and one third of Amorf with Cons and the pianist Mischa Blanos, a project XLR8R says began in a January 2016 studio session. SIT is described by XLR8R as one of the few Bucharest acts to achieve sustained international success. Amorf's music appeared publicly in May 2016, when Rhadoo played a piano track at Sunwaves, XLR8R reports.

Electronic Groove listed SIT (Cristi Cons and Vlad Caia) among the artists at SW35, the last Romanian edition of Sunwaves, held from 1 to 5 May 2025; our Sunwaves festival page tells the festival's story. A further link to Raresh runs through Amphia: an Xceed bio for Cons describes the Numiris EP as a collaboration between Caia, Raresh and Cons under the Verico name, which Discogs lists as Amphia's fifth release, in 2013.
