Cristi Cons is a Romanian producer and DJ who arrived at minimal house through the cello. Trained at a Bucharest music university, he co-founded the label Amphia Records with his longtime collaborator Vlad Caia, records with Caia as SIT. Bandcamp Daily's 2026 scene report on Romanian minimal techno puts him among its current artists, and the story fits into our overview of rominimal.
Early Life and Path Into Music
Bandcamp Daily describes him as a trained cellist with "a knack for nuanced darkness." XLR8R's 2020 Romania issue says he studied at the National University of Music Bucharest, where he met the pianist Mischa Blanos. Fabric's introduction to SIT calls him an artist formally educated in the Romanian capital and counts him among the premier talents to emerge from the country. In that interview, undated on the page, he says he met Vlad Caia in 2006 and that the two slowly began working together as producers before taking the name SIT, short for Sideways Invisibility Theory.
Sound and Style
The sound is patient and a little dark. Bandcamp Daily calls his solo work nuanced and says Out of Cycle is bewitching in its repetition. Amphia's release notes describe the album as a mix of hypnotic trip hop, downtempo and groovy house. On stage, Fabric reported that SIT played live with two notebooks, a drum machine, an effects box and two MIDI controllers, mixing improvisation with unreleased material.
The Label Story: Amphia Records
Amphia Records, based in Bucharest, was started by Cons and Caia, according to the label's Discogs profile and Bandcamp Daily, which names Cons as co-founder. Its first catalogue number, AMP001, is Cons's own Traversa EP, listed by Discogs as 2011. Releases since include Caia's Division I and Division II, Cezar Lazar's Archetypes, Amorf's EPs and, in 2021, Out of Cycle. In the Fabric interview, Cons says the label began as a way to present the release, with a focus on connecting image and sound: the designer Claudiu Stefan does the physical artwork, and Caia makes the videos.
Out of Cycle LP came out on 26 August 2021 as Amphia 023.1, a double 12-inch with six tracks, including "Western Habits" and "Politics of Entertainment." The label's page calls it the first part of his debut album. Discogs lists a second part, catalogued AMP023.2, with a 2026 year.
Career Highlights
Cons performs in Petre Inspirescu's π Ensemble and in Amorf, alongside Caia and the pianist Mischa Blanos, Bandcamp Daily says. XLR8R traces Amorf's origin to a studio session in January 2016 and says the public first heard Amorf in May 2016, when Rhadoo played one of their piano tracks at Sunwaves. It describes SIT as one of the few Bucharest projects to break out and achieve sustained international success.
A Raresh link runs through Amphia too: an Xceed artist bio describes the Numiris EP as a collaboration between Caia, Raresh and Cons under the name Verico, and Discogs lists it as Amphia's fifth release, from 2013. For bookings, Bandcamp Daily says Sunrise represents him, and Electronic Groove listed SIT (Cristi Cons and Vlad Caia) on the bill of SW35, the final Romanian Sunwaves in May 2025. Our Sunwaves festival page has the history of the festival.
