Big RoomProgressive HouseEDM

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are the most commercially successful Belgian DJs of the festival era. Brothers from Willebroek in Flanders, they have spent more than a decade as the official resident DJs of Tomorrowland, twice finished No. 1 in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll, and built a label, Smash the House, around the big-room and progressive sound that fills Belgian main stages. They sit at the opposite end of the country's scene from the techno acts covered in RTS.FM's guide to Belgian techno, but for search purposes they are the first answer to "famous Belgian DJs".

Who Are Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike?

The duo are Dimitri Thivaios (Dimitri Vegas) and Michael Thivaios (Like Mike), brothers of Greek origin who grew up in Willebroek, according to Wikipedia. Wikipedia gives Dimitri's birth date as 16 May 1982 and Michael's as 3 December 1985, both in Belgium. Dimitri left Belgium in 1999, lived in Mallorca and Halkidiki, and moved to Ibiza in 2003. The article gives no exact start date for the partnership, but their Tomorrowland association and label date to 2010.

Tomorrowland Residents Since 2010

Tomorrowland is the festival that made them. Wikipedia lists them as official resident DJs since 2010 and says they wrote the festival's official anthems from 2010 through 2014, beginning with "Tomorrow (Give in to the Night)", which reached No. 16 in Belgium. They introduced the Garden of Madness stage in 2017, and in July 2020 they closed the first virtual edition, Tomorrowland Around the World, on 25 and 26 July. Smash the House, their label, was founded in 2010 and doubles as a stage brand at festivals.

The Tomorrowland link also explains how Belgium's biggest dance-music export works. A festival in Boom turned two local DJs into a global act, a pattern that Charlotte de Witte, who won a Tomorrowland-linked DJ contest in 2011, followed from a very different direction.

Climbing DJ Mag's Top 100

According to Wikipedia, the duo entered DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs at No. 79 in 2011, then moved to 38 in 2012 and 6 in 2013. They finished second in 2014, first in 2015, then second in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and first again in 2019. Later placings were 2 in 2020, 5 in 2021, 3 in 2022, 2 in 2023, 3 in 2024 and 4 in 2025. DJ Mag reported in 2025 that they were also voted the world's No. 1 DJ group, and its 2026 listing puts them at No. 5, again as the top group, so the headline for a decade has been consistent: this duo are at or near the top of a public vote that favours festival-scale acts.

That context matters for readers who compare them with underground names. Our explainer on DJ Mag's 2026 poll covers how the vote works and why fan-driven results favour mainstage acts.

Records, Collaborations and Charts

The duo's catalogue is built on big-name collaborations. Wikipedia lists "Chattahoochee" in 2013 at No. 2 in Belgium, "The Hum" with Ummet Ozcan in 2015 and "Higher Place" with Ne-Yo, also 2015, both No. 1 in Belgium, and "Hey Baby" with Diplo in 2016, No. 1 and platinum in Belgium. "Complicated" with David Guetta in 2017 went platinum in Belgium and the Netherlands. "Selfish" with Era Istrefi, released on 15 February 2019, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, and "Instagram" with David Guetta, Daddy Yankee, Afro Bros and Natti Natasha later became their first double-platinum single.

Other releases include "When I Grow Up" with Wiz Khalifa on 22 June 2018, "Best Friends Ass" with Paris Hilton on 10 May 2019, "Mexico" with Ne-Yo and Danna Paola on 3 March 2023 and "Thank You (Not So Bad)" with Tiesto, W&W and Dido on 1 December 2023. They have also performed as 3 Are Legend with Steve Aoki, a supergroup name first used at Ultra Music Festival in 2014. Wikipedia says their debut studio album, Rewind + Repeat, was announced in July 2023.

Awards

Wikipedia records MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Belgian Act in 2014, 2015 and 2018. At the International Dance Music Awards they won Best Breakthrough DJ in 2013, Best European DJ in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and Best Group in 2014 and 2016. They also hold a YouTube Gold Play Button, reported as 5.5 million subscribers in February 2023.

Two Sides of the Duo

Like Mike runs a separate melodic techno project called Hereon, according to Wikipedia, a sign of how far the brothers' interests have spread beyond big room. In 2026 the pair were billed at Ushuaia Ibiza for a Tomorrowland-presented closing party on 30 September, as noted in our Ibiza closing parties guide.

DJ Mag reported in July 2026 that Like Mike withdrew from his Tomorrowland set and announced a touring break for health reasons, and that Dimitri Vegas played the Tomorrowland mainstage alone. No return date was given, and Dimitri said he hopes to have his brother back on stage in 2027, according to DJ Mag. Check the duo's official site for current dates.
