Best Standalone DJ Systems in 2026: Prices and Specs
AlphaTheta's XDJ-AN and CDJ-1500X, Denon DJ's Prime 4 G2 and the XDJ-AZ compared, with dated prices, specs and what 2026 reviews say.

Three standalone DJ products have launched since July, and between them they redraw the buying map: AlphaTheta's XDJ-AN (July 2026) at the entry level, its CDJ-1500X player (July 2026) in the middle, and Denon DJ's Prime 4 G2 (September 2026) at the top. They join the XDJ-AZ, OPUS-QUAD and OMNIS-DUO, which are still on sale, and the older Denon DJ Prime 4+, which one retailer now lists as discontinued. This guide compares them using manufacturer specification pages and reviews dated 2026, with every price tied to a source, a date and a currency.
Standalone here means a unit that plays music without a laptop: from a USB stick or SD card, from a phone, from a cloud library or from a streaming service. Some of these are all-in-one systems with a built-in mixer, and one, the CDJ-1500X, is a single player that goes in a rack or booth alongside a separate mixer. Prices move with retailers, taxes and exchange rates, so treat every figure as a snapshot and check it before buying.
How we sourced this guide
Specifications come from AlphaTheta and Denon DJ's own product pages, or from the launch announcements those companies issued. Prices come from the sources named next to them, not from our own checks. Where outlets disagree, we say so. Opinions on feel, sound and ergonomics are attributed to named reviewers, because we have not tested these units ourselves. For gear that is not a DJ system, see our pieces on Teenage Engineering's plan to stop making synthesizers and Ableton's 25th year, which cover instruments and production tools rather than DJ hardware.

What changed in 2026
AlphaTheta resets the entry level and the middle
For years the cheapest way into a Pioneer DJ club layout was the XDJ-RR, a two-channel all-in-one. In July 2026 AlphaTheta announced the XDJ-AN as its replacement, according to both Digital DJ Tips and We Are Crossfader. The same month it unveiled the CDJ-1500X, which DJ TechTools calls the first fully featured AlphaTheta media player at its price since the XDJ-1000MK2 launched in September 2016.
Denon DJ answers with the Prime 4 G2
On 1 September 2026 Denon DJ launched the Prime 4 G2, a four-channel, four-deck system that adds onboard stem rendering, built-in DMX lighting control and 16 pressure-sensitive pads borrowed from Akai's MPC range. Denon DJ belongs to inMusic, the same group that agreed in May to buy Native Instruments, which we cover in what the sale means for Traktor.
Prices, tariffs and the 2025 rises
AlphaTheta raised US prices in July 2025. We Rave You reported on 7 July 2025 that new US prices of $1,129 for the XDJ-RR and $3,449 for the XDJ-XZ had appeared in a Reddit screenshot, noted that AlphaTheta had issued no official statement, and said the reasons offered, including tariffs and exchange rates, were speculation from commenters. The 2026 figures in this guide are therefore not directly comparable with pre-2025 prices you may remember.
AlphaTheta XDJ-AN: the entry-level reset
The XDJ-AN is a two-channel all-in-one built to feel like a small CDJ and DJM setup. AlphaTheta's page lists a 638 by 359 by 90 millimetre body weighing 5.2 kg, three USB-C ports (for storage, a computer or phone, and power), a balanced XLR plus RCA master output, a mic input, a seven-inch touchscreen according to MusicTech, and a built-in SonicLink wireless transmitter for compatible headphones with latency as low as 9 milliseconds. It streams Apple Music, Beatport Streaming and Tidal, plays from the rekordbox cloud and works as a controller for rekordbox, Serato DJ and djay.
The launch price listed on AlphaTheta's site, as reported by MusicTech in its review of 10 August 2026, is €1,149, £999 and $1,199. DJ TechTools' launch headline rounds the US price to $1,200.
What reviewers say is consistent. MusicTech scored it 7 and called it capable and approachable, with competitive pricing, responsive jog wheels and balanced outputs, but criticised a sluggish crossfader with dead zones, the single rear-panel USB-C media port, the missing booth output and heavy reliance on a seven-inch touchscreen. Digital DJ Tips, in its review of 9 July 2026, called it a fun, capable standalone that mostly suits rekordbox users willing to wait for cloud features to improve, and lists no key sync, stems or sampler, and pads that are always orange. We Are Crossfader, also on 9 July 2026, said the cost-cutting shows in the build, ports and controls, and notes that Spotify support is planned.
Verdict from the sources: the XDJ-AN is the cheapest route into AlphaTheta's ecosystem and a clear step up from a laptop controller. MusicTech's view is that it cuts enough features that it may be outgrown quickly, so if you already know you want club-style hardware, the range above it is worth a look.
AlphaTheta CDJ-1500X: a CDJ-3000X screen in a smaller body
The CDJ-1500X is not an all-in-one. It is a single multi player that you pair with a mixer, which makes it a different kind of purchase from the XDJ-AN. RA reported on 2 July 2026 that it costs £1,469 including VAT, €1,699 including VAT and US$1,599 before tax. DJ TechTools, the same day, gave $1,699 as the US price, so the dollar figure is one to confirm with your retailer.
AlphaTheta's specification page lists a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, the same size as on the flagship CDJ-3000X, a weight of 3.6 kg, Wi-Fi and NFC login, playback from USB, rekordbox cloud and streaming from Apple Music, Beatport Streaming and Tidal, with analogue RCA as the only audio output. DJ TechTools flags that the CDJ-1500X has no digital output and no stems, and Digital DJ Tips adds that it has no key sync or key shift on the unit.
MusicTech's review of 21 July 2026 gave it 8 out of 10, praising the clean design and the front USB bay that protects drives, while marking down the price, the missing digital output and cue and play buttons that feel less premium. Digital DJ Tips called the missing key tools the biggest drawback and recommended the player to home DJs wanting separates and to smaller venues.
DJ TechTools adds one note of caution: AlphaTheta's CoBeat service, which lets an audience send song requests by QR code, depends on venue Wi-Fi and adds attention demands, in the author's view. It also says a single unit that works with rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro and djay is a smarter approach than the split hardware Pioneer sold before.
Denon DJ Prime 4 G2: stems, pads and lighting in one box
Denon DJ's announcement says the Prime 4 G2 uses an eight-core ARM processor with 4 GB of RAM, which the company says delivers four times the processing power of the previous generation. The Engine DJ announcement lists a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 8-inch jog wheels with LED displays, 16 MPCe pads that combine hot cues, stems, rolls, effects and lighting, onboard stem rendering with instrumental and acapella buttons, a built-in DMX output powered by SoundSwitch, balanced XLR main, booth and Zone outputs, and streaming from Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, Beatport, SoundCloud Go+ and Tidal.
Pricing reported by Sonicstate is $2,599, €2,699.99 and £2,299.99, with availability from 1 September 2026. The DJ Revolution adds that Wi-Fi is the only network connection, since the new unit drops the Ethernet port the Prime 4+ had, and that its OmniSource function, which switches between standalone and software sources such as Serato DJ Pro, djay and VirtualDJ, was not ready at launch.
We Are Crossfader's review of 1 September 2026 calls it one of the most capable all-in-one units available and a strong choice for portable event DJs, noting a 9.9 kg weight that is lighter than the XDJ-AZ's 13.5 kg listed by AlphaTheta, clean stem isolation and the extra event features of two mic inputs, a Zone output, a DMX port and an internal SATA bay. It also lists the caveats: the MPCe pads take getting used to, jog tension cannot be adjusted, Spotify is planned for early 2027 and OmniSource is still to come. The reviewer recommends it for owners of the original Prime 4 and suggests Prime 4+ owners weigh the upgrade carefully.
On the older model, The DJ Hookup's guide describes the Prime 4+ as discontinued and the Prime 4 G2 as its replacement. If you want a deeper look at what onboard stems actually do for a set, our explainer on AI stem separation in DJ tools covers how the technology works and how working DJs use it.
AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ and OPUS-QUAD: the club-style four-channel units
Both four-channel units are still current. AlphaTheta's XDJ-AZ page lists a 10.1-inch touchscreen that shows up to 13 tracks, four performance channels, rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro compatibility, streaming from Apple Music, Beatport Streaming, Spotify and Tidal, a 13.5 kg body measuring 895 by 504 millimetres and a balanced XLR master output. The company announced it on 10 October 2024.
The DJ Hookup's guide lists the XDJ-AZ and the OPUS-QUAD at $3,199 each and calls the XDJ-AZ's sound quality the best of the units it ranks, with the OPUS-QUAD's advantages being a Zone output for multi-room events, deck-specific screens and a distinctive look. It prefers the AZ at full price. We Are Crossfader, reviewing the Prime 4 G2 in September 2026, put the XDJ-AZ at roughly £2,800 at the time and notes it lacks real-time stems and pressure-sensitive pads, which are the Denon's headline additions.
AlphaTheta OMNIS-DUO and Denon DJ SC LIVE 4: the portable pair
The OMNIS-DUO is the battery-powered option. AlphaTheta's page lists a 4.6 kg body, a 47.52 Wh battery for about five hours of playback, two mic inputs and streaming from Apple Music, Beatport Streaming and Tidal. The DJ Hookup lists it at $1,599 but says its build quality, effects and streaming options trail Denon DJ's PRIME Go+, and that Numark Mixstream units offer many similar features for about half the list price.
The SC LIVE 4 is the cheapest four-channel unit in this guide at $1,299 in the same guide, with a seven-inch fixed screen and built-in speakers. The Hookup says stems need a one-time $9.99 licence and pre-rendering on a computer, and that it has no inputs for turntables or external players. Both are specialist buys: one for portability, the other for small rooms.
If you only need a controller
Not everyone needs a standalone. MusicTech reported that Native Instruments' Traktor MX2, a two-channel controller with stems on its performance pads and a copy of Traktor Pro 4, launched at £349 on 8 October 2025. With the Traktor brand now owned by inMusic, its long-term future is less clear than that of the rekordbox or Serato controllers; we explain why in our report on the sale.
Library formats and firmware: the part spec sheets skip
The buying decision is also about the library format. In October 2025, AlphaTheta, Algoriddim and Native Instruments announced OneLibrary, a shared format that carries playlists, cue points and beatgrids between rekordbox hardware and djay Pro or Traktor. MusicTech lists the CDJ-3000X, the CDJ-3000 (on firmware 3.30 or later), the XDJ-AZ, the OPUS-QUAD and the OMNIS-DUO as the supported players, and AlphaTheta's own page lists OneLibrary support for the CDJ-1500X.
Firmware matters too. Weeks after OneLibrary arrived, Mixmag reported on 4 November 2025 that AlphaTheta had suspended the CDJ-3000 firmware 3.30 rollout after DJs said playlists and tracks were disappearing from their USB drives, and told affected users to return to version 3.20. AlphaTheta said it was investigating and apologised. The lesson for any 2026 buyer is practical: do not install a firmware update the night before a gig, and keep a second drive.
How to choose
- Learning at home, with a club path in mind: the XDJ-AN is the cheapest AlphaTheta route, but plan on outgrowing it.
- You already own a mixer, or want separates: the CDJ-1500X is the only single player here and mirrors the CDJ-3000X screen.
- Mobile and event work with lighting: the Prime 4 G2 has the Zone output, DMX and onboard stems, at a higher price.
- Club-style feel with rekordbox: the XDJ-AZ or OPUS-QUAD, with the OPUS-QUAD's Zone output as its extra.
- Gigs without mains power: the OMNIS-DUO is the one with a battery.
Hardware is not the only variable. Fees and costs shape what working DJs can afford, as we show in our look at underground DJ economics and how promoters are squeezing DJ fees. And some artists build their own route around standard DJ gear: Blawan started the hardware-only project Karenn with Pariah, according to Wikipedia, and Richie Hawtin launched his own technology company, PLAYdifferently, in 2016, whose first release was a MODEL 1 mixer co-designed with Andy Rigby-Jones.
quick wins
- AlphaTheta's XDJ-AN (July 2026) replaces the XDJ-RR at €1,149 / £999 / $1,199 and is two-channel, with a seven-inch touchscreen and no booth output or stems.
- The CDJ-1500X, announced 2 July 2026, is a single player with the CDJ-3000X's 10.1-inch screen at £1,469 inc. VAT / €1,699 inc. VAT / US$1,599 ex-tax per RA; it has no digital output or key sync.
- Denon DJ's Prime 4 G2, launched 1 September 2026 at $2,599 / €2,699.99 / £2,299.99, adds onboard stems, 16 pressure-sensitive pads and DMX; OmniSource and Spotify support were still to come at launch.
- The XDJ-AZ and OPUS-QUAD are listed at $3,199 each by The DJ Hookup (updated 5 October 2026); the OMNIS-DUO at $1,599 and the SC LIVE 4 at $1,299.
- AlphaTheta pulled CDJ-3000 firmware 3.30 on 4 November 2025 after playlist problems, so keep a backup drive and avoid updating before a gig.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best standalone DJ system in 2026?
There is no single best, but the sources point to the Denon DJ Prime 4 G2 for stems, lighting and event work, and the AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ for a club-style layout. The XDJ-AN is the cheapest AlphaTheta route and the CDJ-1500X suits those who want a single player rather than an all-in-one.
How much does the AlphaTheta XDJ-AN cost?
MusicTech's review of 10 August 2026 lists AlphaTheta's prices as €1,149, £999 and $1,199, and Digital DJ Tips gives the same three figures. DJ TechTools rounds the US price to $1,200. Whether tax is included varies by country, so confirm with your retailer.
Is the CDJ-1500X a standalone DJ system?
Not on its own. It is a single player that needs a mixer, though it plays music from USB, the cloud and streaming without a laptop. RA lists it at £1,469 including VAT, €1,699 including VAT and US$1,599 before tax, as of 2 July 2026, while DJ TechTools gave $1,699 for the US.
Does the Denon DJ Prime 4 G2 have stem separation?
Yes. Denon DJ says it renders stems on the unit and offers instrumental and acapella buttons, stem effects and stem level EQ. One reviewer, We Are Crossfader, describes the stem isolation as clean.
Can the XDJ-AZ use Spotify?
AlphaTheta's page for the XDJ-AZ lists Spotify among its streaming services, alongside Apple Music, Beatport Streaming and Tidal. Subscription requirements apply, and availability can vary by country, so check the current firmware notes before buying for Spotify alone.
Are standalone DJ systems better than controllers?
They are different tools. A standalone plays music without a laptop and often mimics club gear, while a controller is cheaper and works with software features such as the stems in Traktor, Serato and djay. The Traktor MX2 launched at £349, for instance, against £999 for the XDJ-AN.
Did DJ gear prices go up recently?
AlphaTheta raised some US prices in July 2025, according to a We Rave You report based on a Reddit screenshot, and offered no official explanation. We did not find an official 2026 price rise from AlphaTheta or Denon DJ in US or UK sources, but regional prices vary and change often.
Is the Denon DJ Prime 4+ discontinued?
The DJ Hookup's guide, updated on 5 October 2026, lists the Prime 4+ as discontinued and names the Prime 4 G2 as its newer replacement. Denon DJ's own announcement describes the G2 as an update to the original Prime 4 line.
