Gottwood Festival
A small woodland and lakeside house and techno festival on the Carreglwyd Estate in north-west Anglesey, running since 2010 and still capped at a few thousand people.

History
Gottwood is a house and techno festival held in the woods and lakeside grounds of the Carreglwyd Estate on the north-west tip of Anglesey, Wales. Wikipedia's entry on the estate dates the festival to 2010, and the early press agrees: Stamp the Wax called its 2013 edition the fourth chapter, and Mixmag described 2017 as the festival's eighth year. Crack Magazine's 2017 review says it was helmed by Tom Carpenter, Digby Neill and Tom Elkington, started with a single stage, and was backed from the outset by tight-knit Leeds and London crews including Louche, Hypercolour, Tief and Real Nice. Mixmag adds that the Carpenter family both run the festival and own the estate. Recent listings call 2026 the 15th anniversary, which does not quite match a 2010 start.
It has stayed small by design. Resident Advisor's 2015 review put attendance at about 4,000, and Stamp the Wax reported in 2017 that organizers had capped ticket sales at 5,000. Crack described the same year's festival as run on a few thousand tickets with few, if any, major commercial sponsors, and called it a passion project. The site had grown to six stages by then. Avanti West Coast's 2026 festival guide says that year's edition featured nearly 250 artists across multiple stages and introduced a 24-hour licence on selected stages. The official 2027 announcement says the festival will evolve and build on that licence.
The setting is a large part of the reputation. Mixmag named the location one of the 10 most breathtaking festival sites in the world in 2015, and Resident Advisor's 2013 review called it unpretentious and inclusive. The programming has leaned on house, techno and disco throughout: RA in 2015 called it a celebration of house, techno, soul and bass music, and Avanti's 2026 guide lists house, techno and disco, alongside wellness sessions and art installations. The official site lists no genres of its own.
Move D is the festival's most documented regular. Mixmag wrote in 2017 that he plays multiple sets each year and that his Saturday afternoon disco set on the Trigon draws the biggest crowd of the weekend, and RA reviews place him on the 2013 and 2015 bills. Ben UFO topped the 2013 bill alongside Bicep, per RA, and played a seven-hour back-to-back with Craig Richards in 2015. Motor City Drum Ensemble closed the Sunday at the Treehouse stage in 2015, according to Mixmag.

Getting there and practical info
The site is at Carreglwyd, Llanfaethlu, Holyhead, Anglesey LL65 4NY, according to the official info page. By car, the info page directs you towards Bangor, then east along the A55 onto Anglesey as far as Valley, then onto the A5025 for about 8 miles to Llanfaethlu. The nearest station is Holyhead, which the same page puts at about 3.5 hours direct from London Euston and 2 hours from Manchester. Techno Airlines names Manchester as the nearest large airport, about two and a half hours by road.
- Last published logistics: the info page still carries the 2026 arrangements, including shuttle buses between Holyhead station and the site on the Thursday and Monday, regional coaches through Tuned in Travel, and an 18+ policy with a Challenge 25 ID check. Treat these as last year's details until the 2027 versions appear.
- Camping and accommodation: general camping is included with weekend tickets (2026 terms), and the official site lists boutique camping options including Woodville Project bell tents and Emperors and Fred's Yurts. Live-in vehicles were not permitted in 2026.
- Accessibility: the official accessibility page describes a green field site of woodland and grass around a lake, a 2:1 personal assistant ticket scheme, and access@gottwood.co.uk for questions.
- Tickets: the official pages disagree. The home page says Early Bird tickets have sold out and that main tickets "go live later this year", with a sign-up form for SMS and email alerts. The same page also carries a "Buy tickets now" button that links to a Resident Advisor event page, which I could not open to check, and the Location and Stages pages say tickets are on general sale now. RA handles ticket queries, according to the info page. Until the festival or RA clarifies, treat the status as unconfirmed, and no price is published on these pages.
- Not yet published for 2027: the lineup, ticket prices, and 2027 transport and camping details.
