History

Rewire is a four-day festival for adventurous music in the centre of The Hague, run by a non-profit of the same name. Its own pages date it to 2011 ("Since 2011, Rewire has been a meeting place for the discovery of envelope-pushing musicians"), and it was founded by Bronne Keesmaat, who is still the festival's artistic and general director and its music curator. The organisation also runs the Rewire x Korzo concert series, an education programme and a record label.

It is not a techno festival. Wikipedia describes the program as contemporary electronic music, neo-classical, new jazz, experimental pop and sound art, in venues from churches to theatres and pop halls. What puts it on a club-music radar is how often the booking crosses over. The 2013 edition had Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer presenting Re:ECM live. By 2014 the bill held James Holden, Simian Mobile Disco, The Field and Kode9, and in 2017 it paired Jeff Mills with the drummer Tony Allen, alongside Helena Hauff and Kassem Mosse. Nina Kraviz appears on the 2018 lineup next to Laurie Anderson and Floating Points, and Spekki Webu is listed in 2019, the year Nicolas Jaar and Tim Hecker also played.

The festival keeps growing in size and reach. The 2022 edition, the eleventh by the festival's own count, ran from April 7 to 10 with a multi-day focus on Meredith Monk. The 2024 edition included Autechre and Jlin. The fifteenth edition ran from April 9 to 12, 2026, with Kim Gordon, Einstürzende Neubauten, Moritz von Oswald and Caterina Barbieri among the names, and the festival's own page lists its 3-day and 4-day passes as sold out.

Next edition

Rewire 2027 is the sixteenth edition and runs from Thursday, April 8 to Sunday, April 11, 2027. At the time of checking, no artists had been announced, with a first announcement expected later in 2026. Early Bird passes had already sold out, while regular and student 3-day and 4-day passes were listed in the ticket shop.
